Westport Village

Westport Village

Located in east Louisville, Camelot Shopping Center was virtually vacant in 2008. Owned by a Boston based asset management firm the property had lost its anchor grocery store and the majority of the small shops tenants vacated the property.

A local Louisville firm which had recently completed a conversion of an adjacent apartment complex into condos acquired the property and engaged Rick Hill to create a concept, branding, and merchandising strategy.

Rick hired Hart Howerton to create a village master plan and directed the architects in the development of a design that was based on an equestrian theme common to Kentucky’s horse farms with steeples, wood shingled roofs, stone and copper.

The properties redevelopment has been hugely successful with a new merchant mix of specialty shops, restaurants, cafes, sidewalk café seating, and gardens. The developer was able to become 100% leased at rents on the high end of the market.
