Barefoot Landing

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

One of America’s first entertainment waterfront villages

Operating Entertainment Center

Barefoot Landing, a specialty retail village located on and around a lagoon situated between the intracoastal waterway and the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina opened in 1987 as one of America’s first dining and entertainment-focused waterfront developments.

The site, located north of the major beachfront hotel district in this summer vacation town, was in a major mid-market tourist destination. J. Richard Hill & Co, founder. created a plan to build an elevated boardwalk lined with restaurants and shops over the water’s edge in a low-country craft-style. Anchored by the House of Blues, the boardwalk featured a live theater by the musical group Alabama, Alligator Adventure, and 17 restaurants and cafes.

Almost 40 years later, Myrtle Beach has grown to a year-round resort destination, with 14 million annual visitors and 140 golf courses. The project commands average minimum rents in excess of $40.00 per square foot.
